ANOTHER AFFAIR Wins Cascais J/70 Easter Cup

2025 0227 Cascai J70A

(Cascais, Portugal)- As host for the J/70 Easter Cup in Cascais, Portugal, the Club Navale Cascais hosted an enthusiastic fleet of twenty-three teams from across the world, with eight nations participating (Portugal, Spain, Great Britain, United States, Finland, Netherlands, Brazil, and Hungary). No question, the strong international contingent was using the event as training for the upcoming J/70 World Championship being hosted in the same venue from September 4th to 12th by Club Navale Cascais.

The weather gods did not bless the Easter Cup with the usual, amazingly consistent spring winds. Instead, just four races were completed over the two-day weekend.

Despite the competitive “foreign” contingent, the podium was swept by hot local Portuguese racing talent. Winning the Easter Cup was Tiago Morais’s ANOTHER AFFAIR with his family team of Miguel, Francisco, and Joao Oliveira! The undaunted, irrepressible family crew posted a 3-1-5-2 to win with 6 pts net.

Taking the silver medal was Silva Espirito Santo’s BABA with her World Champion tactician, Hugo Rocha, calling the shots, along with Fran Palacios and Frederico Melo. Their record was a roller-coaster ride of 11-3-1-6 for 10 pts net.

Rounding out the podium to take the bronze medal was Jose Caldeira’s UON team of Tiago Leal, Julia Cardoso, Roberto Bermudez de Castro, and Helder Basilio. Their 12-5-4-4 tally was good for 13 pts net.

The balance of the top five included Diego Guardamino’s WILCO team in fourth place with 15 pts net, followed by the Americans on USA 167- Jim Pendergast’s team with 17 pts net.
