30th Charleston Race Week– J/Boats Dominate Across Multiple Classes (Charleston, SC)- The 30th anniversary Charleston Race Week enjoyed great weather over four days. Hosted on the USN Yorktown, a World War II aircraft carrier, organizers were pleased with three days of excellent racing in Charleston Harbor. High tides at 8:30 AM kicked off the first day. From Friday to Sunday, it was mostly an “ebb tide” regatta. This had a big effect on the typical southerly sea breezes sailors expect. The tide fought the breeze, delaying the seabreeze on Friday and Saturday. On Sunday, a cold front brought shifty north-northwest winds. Here is how it went for the J/7s, J/22s, J/24s, J/70s, J/105s, and the PHRF and ORC divisions. Read on to see the action on Charleston Harbor. READ MORE HERE

J/Boats Lead IRC Fleet At Warsash Spring Championship 2026 On The Solent (Warsash, England)- The Warsash Sailing Club has been hosting its annual rite of spring- the Spring Championship for IRC Classes. It’s a very popular event for J/sailors to get themselves tuned up for the major summertime events on the Solent and for the RORC Offshore events that run all summer. The larger J’s are sailing on the Black Group course, which includes a large IRC contingent of J/teams sailing J/111s, J/109, J/92, and a J/99.
Spring weather helped PRO Peter Bateson (IRC Black Group) deliver an outstanding weekend of racing, enjoyed by over 50 boats. The weather on Saturday delivered as forecast, with the Solent tide running strongly in the afternoon for races 3 and 4. The weather models did not look promising for Sunday, with almost no wind forecast. However, the wind had built above predictions, with boats starting in 10 kts, and the breeze dropped to 5 kts during the day. As those who sail regularly on the Hill Head Plateau will know, a northerly breeze can be very shifty and puffy, with winds swinging up to 70 degrees, making it very tricky even for the most experienced of competitors! SWISS RACING SAILORS Win Swiss J/70 Super League Opener in Brissago (Brissago, Switzerland)- It was a great kick-off for the 2026 season for the Swiss J/70 Super League on Lake Maggiore, Switzerland. Hosted by the Regatta Club Lago Maggiore, sixteen teams enjoyed six races each on the tricky, shifty mountain breezes typical of the northern end of Lake Maggiore, a lake shared with Italy along the southern half of the lake.
The weather forecasts looked grim, but the reality was significantly better than anyone expected! On Saturday, the winds started light, but built to a solid 12 knots with pure sunshine. Then, on Sunday, the fleet was blessed again with good winds from the south.
The highlight of the regatta was definitely the dinner at the fire station! Huge thanks to the Ski Club Brissago for the hospitality and the traditional risotto!
In the end, it was refreshing to see two “new faces” at the top of the leaderboard. READ MORE HERE.
