J/Boats Dominate IRC Fleet at 2026 Warsash Spring Championship
(Warsash, England)- The Warsash Sailing Club completed its 2026 Spring Championship for IRC Classes this past weekend. It’s a popular event for J/sailors that use the regatta as a tune-up for the major summertime events on the Solent and for the RORC Offshore events that run all summer. In the end, a number of J/Teams faired very well in IRC 1 and 2 Divisions, boding well for their summertime campaigns.
IRC 1 Division- J/111 Domination
There was a significant change in the standings after the first weekend; all four J/111s ended up occupying the top five slots. Chris Jones & Louise Makin’s JOURNEYMAKER 11 held onto their second place after the first weekend and took home the silver medal with a 39 pts net score. Jumping onto the podium to take the bronze medal was Paul Griffiths’s JAGERBOMB with 44 pts net. Then, Cornel Riklin’s JITTERBUG finished fourth with 50.5 pts net and Elle Wollmann’s FREQUENT FLYER took fifth place with 59 pts net.
IRC 2 Division- J/109 Domination
J/Boats swept the podium and top four spots in IRC 2 division. John Smart’s J/109 JUKEBOX wqn with 24 pts net, followed by Oliver Love’s J/109 FRANK IV in second with 34 pts net, then Kevin Taylor’s J/99 JUMP 2 IT took the final bronze medal step on the podium with 42 pts net. Finishing fourth was David Richards’s J/109 JUMPING JELLYFISH with 48 pts net.
