Thunersee Yachtclub Leads Swiss J/70 Women’s Super League
(Spiez, Switzerland)- The first of many Swiss J/70 Women’s Super League regattas took place this past weekend on the gorgeous Lake Thunersee high in the Swiss Alps. Eleven teams were hosted by the Yacht Club Spiez on a weekend full of fun and great racing. A sunny Saturday and windy Sunday enabled the YC Spiez RC/PRO team to run nine races for the sixty-plus women sailors participating over the weekend.
In the end, the Thunersee Yachtclub prevailed as the winner of the first Swiss J/70 Women’s Super League regatta in Spiez. Starting out with a bullet in their first race, the Thunersee YC team of Sophie Mosegaard, Isabel Caflisch, Michele Guggisberg, Rahel Pfister, and Fiona Scharer never looked back, posting four 1sts and four 2nds in their tally for 17 pts total.
Nearly matching the performance of the runaway ladies on the Thunersee YC team was Club Nautique Morgien. Their team of Celia Willison, Noemie Fehlmann, Olivia Cormont, and Ella Dorries managed to post two bullets, a 2nd, and four 3rds in their scoreline to take the silver medal with 21 pts total.
Then, rounding out the podium on the bronze medal step was Cercle de Voile de Lausanne with 26 pts total. They won a tiebreaker on countback, 26 pts each, against Regattaclub Bodensee. The CVL team consisted of Stephanie Hasler, Marie Nowak, Melanie Henry, Line Hasler, and Yoana Lopez.
The balance of the top five consisted of Regattaclub Bodensee in fourth place, skippered by Livia Naef, and sitting in fifth place was Yachtclub Bielersee helmed by Lea Tschudi.
