Oxelösund Segelsallskap Leads Swedish J/70 Sailing League

(Kalmar, Sweden)- The first act of the year in the Swedish Allsvenskan Sailing 2026 was held from May 8-10 in Kalmar. The competition was hotly contested on the water as always. However, onshore festivities featured a close collaboration with Kalmar WaterExpo, which offered a weekend filled with inspiration, exhibitions, and activities about life on, in, and by the water. The event was held in the Sylvanderparken, centrally located in Kalmar, a short walk from the railway station and the city center.

Allsvenskan Sailing is a competition series for Swedish sailing clubs that was introduced in 2015. An Allsvenskan season consists of four acts, each featuring many short, intense races held over three days. The races are judged directly by judges on the course. The events are broadcast live on YouTube and Facebook with commentary, analysis, and reports. Here is what went down on the waters off Kalmar.

Oxelösund Segelsallskap turned the tables in the final of Allsvenskan Act 1 in Kalmar. The Oxelösund team (Erik Linden, Maja Timan Gustafsson, Nathalie Wassler, Isaell Ekengren Fran, and Gustav Linden) sailed quickly and efficiently in the final and won by the smallest possible margin.

After the 14 flights in the preliminary round were completed, the six best clubs went to the final. GKSS (Gothenburg Royal Sailing Club), who won the preliminary round, took one point to the final; KSSS (Swedish Royal Sailing Club) was second and received two points, and so on for Ljungskile, Upsala, Stenungsund, and Oxelösund. The final then became intense and dramatic and, not least, had a completely improbable outcome! The order of the finishes was the reverse of the result the teams had until that point! This meant that all clubs ended up with seven points!! In such a situation, the final race decided the outcome.

Oxelösund Segelsallskap thus won the preliminary round in Kalmar. Taking the silver medal was the Stenungsund Segelsallskap team of William Karlsson, Mira Bensryd, Anton Karlsson, Wilhelm Eriksson, and Doris Lagergren. Then, rounding out the podium for the bronze medal was the Upsala Segelsallskap team of Conny Kjellberg, Christer Olsson, Frida Lindqvist, Niklas Larsson, and Emilia Melen.
