Classic J/Teams Ready for Sloop Tavern YC Three Buoy Fiasco Race

(Seattle, WA)- The Sloop Tavern Yacht Club in Seattle, WA, holds its annual Three Buoy Fiasco this coming weekend to much fanfare and aplomb from the masses aligning the shore at daybreak. OK, well, a few happy dogs being taken for a walk in the morning along the seawall may enjoy the spectacle. The Sloop Tavern YC gets the ball rolling in the morning for the fleet of enthusiastic sailors, and all take off on their prescribed 13.51 nm course around the three buoys either clockwise or counter-clockwise… your choice!

The race attracts quite an eclectic fleet of “classic” J’s, hauling the mail around the 13.51 nm course. Of course, it doesn’t hurt to enjoy a gorgeous day of sailing with the snow-capped Cascade Mountains towering off to the East and the mighty Olympic Mountains thrusting skyward to the west as a pretty little tapestry in the background of every selfie taken in the race!

Three Buoy Fiasco is a casual race with a pursuit start (aka slow boats first). There are three marks to round between the start and finish: the Meadow Point buoy, the West Point Buoy, and the PMYC Buoy near Jefferson Point. Now for the fiasco part…you can round the buoys in any order and in either direction, including the start and finish!

Fastest around the track should be Steve Kirsch’s J/111 FLASH. Joining them will be Jerry Woodfield’s J/109 SHADA, Jonathan Saunders’s J/105 EL GATO, William Daniel’s J/100 TOURIST, two J/80s (Matt Larson’s MANIC & Alex Thomson’s CRAZY IVAN), and Mike Darcy’s pretty J/27 ZEPHYR.
