J/Teams Collect Silverware in Seattle YC Tri-Island Series
(Seattle, WA)- The Seattle Yacht Club concluded its two-month-long Tri-Island Series this past weekend for the fleet of passionate offshore racing sailors in the Pacific Northwest. With races taking place in and around Puget Sound, the three-race series consisted of the Smith Island Race, Vashon Island Race, and Blake Island Race.
Tri-Island Series- ORC Overall
Sailing mostly long courses, this fleet saw Jay Renehan & Chris Lanzinger’s J/111 HOOLIGAN race a strong series to garner the silver medal amongst the fleet of Seattle’s most decorated offshore gold-platers, which include several TP52s and custom 40-50 footers!
Tri-Island Series PHRF Overall
In this twenty-two-boat fleet, J/Teams took three of the top five places. Winning the silver medal was Sara Billey’s J/105 PEER GYNT. Then, tied for third place on 16 pts each was Kirk Fraser’s J/109 ECLIPSE. However, after the tiebreaker countback, they settled for fourth place. Taking fifth was John Aitchison’s veterans aboard his J/105 MOOSE UNKNOWN.
ORC 4 Division
Winning this thirteen-boat fleet was the Renehan/ Lanzinger duo on their J/111 HOOLIGAN. Earning the bronze medal was David Miller’s J/99 ONELIFE, while Jerry Woodfield’s J/109 SHADA took fourth, Tolga Cezik’s J/111 LODOS took sixth, and Chris Johnson’s J/120 WITH GRACE took seventh place.
PHRF 5 Division
Taking third place in this five-boat fleet was Kirk Fraser’s J/109 ECLIPSE.
PHRF 6 Division
Winning this half-dozen boat fleet was Ryan Porter’s J/80 JOLLY GREEN. Then, Mike Darcy’s J/27 ZEPHYR garnered the bronze medal.
PHRF 7 Division- J/105s
The big eleven-boat J/105 fleet saw Sara Billey’s PEER GYNT crew dominate the series with a 2-1-1 for 4 pts… miles ahead of the second place team! Taking the silver medal was John Aitchison’s MOOSE UNKNOWN, while Steve Summers’s PUFF rounded out the podium with the bronze medal.
