J/Teams Ready for New York Yacht Club Annual Regatta in Newport

(Newport, RI)- The second week of June traditionally marks the start of the summer sailing season for the New York Yacht Club. The NYYC Annual Regatta will be taking place over the June 12th to 14th weekend on the waters of Narragansett Bay and Rhode Island Sound. Hundreds of sailors are looking forward to visiting the seaside resort of Newport, RI- “the city by the sea”- for some fun and frolic. The regatta format features the incredibly popular Round Island Race on Friday (a 21.0nm circumnavigation of Conanicut Island) and then two days of either round-the-buoys racing or PHRF navigational buoys racing.

ORC B Division
In this large fifteen-boat fleet, the Lone Ranger from the J/Camp will be Steve Losik’s J/121 HABIRU.

ORC C Division
Sailing this 10-boat fleet will be three J/122s (Robin Team’s TEAMWORK, Constantine Baris’s DIRE WOLF, & Jack Gregg’s TARAHUMARA), Tom Sutton’s J/111 LEADING EDGE, and Rick Lyall & Jeff Johnstone’s J/40 J/HAWK.

PHRF B Division
The huge nineteen-boat fleet will feature several top J/teams; including Bill & Jackie Baxter’s J/111 FIREBALL, Joe Brito’s J/121 INCOGNITO, Richard Jaffe & Robert Morton’s J/124 BRIGADOON, and Don Dwyer’s J/40 BLUE YONDER III.

PHRF C Division
The large seventeen-boat fleet has four J/99s racing (Jim Mega’s FALCON, Mark Mcgivney’s SHAMBLES, Doug McKeige’s SAVE THE SOUND, and Adam & Shannon Zakka’s WIZARD), Bob Manchester’s J/133 VAMOOSE, Ahbijeet Lee’s J/111 VARUNA, Bill Kneller’s J/109 VENTO SOLARE, and George Harrington’s J/112E #BIGSANDWICH.

PHRF D Division
The huge fouteen-boat fleet has four J/105s sailing (Doug Riggs’s RIGADOON, Fred Darlington’s ALIBI, Chris Tate’s BLITZ, & Bobby & Erin Martin’s POWWOW), Dawson Hodgson’s J/100 GRIMACE, Dan Stone’s J/92 TRIPLE PLAY, and EC Helme’s J/92S SPIRIT.
