J/7 Nominated for European Yacht of the Year 2027
(Newport, RI)— The new J/7 has earned a place among the nominees for the prestigious European Yacht of the Year 2027 awards, giving J/Boats’ newest daysailer another important international endorsement as it prepares for its European boat-show debut.
Selected as one of 21 nominees by a jury of leading European sailing journalists, the J/7 will participate in the award program’s on-the-water evaluations this fall. The winners will be announced at boot Düsseldorf, Germany, in January 2027.
The nomination is particularly meaningful because the J/7 takes a distinctly different approach from the industry’s continuing trend toward larger, more complicated boats. At just over 23 feet, the J/7 focuses on the essentials: responsive sailing performance, a spacious cockpit, a simple sail plan, and the ability to be comfortably handled by one person.
In its overview of the 2027 nominees, Germany’s YACHT magazine described the J/7’s philosophy as “sailing, nothing more.” Its test team found the boat responsive, yet controllable, well balanced under mainsail alone, and capable of sailing at six knots on a reach with a single-handed sailor aboard. Brazil’s OCEANPACT-VIKING Crowned J/70 World Champion in Cascais
Spain’s MARNATURA Wins Corinthian Division
(Cascais, Portugal)- The J/70 World Championship 2026 was sailed this week in Cascais, Portugal, hosted by the renowned Club Navale de Cascais, one of Europe’s most experienced and respected sailing clubs. The fleet of 100 teams from 26 nations was treated to “champagne weather”- spectacular, postcard-perfect, sunny sailing conditions for the entire week of racing. The racing was extremely competitive, with several new teams at the top of the leaderboard and a few veteran J/70 campaigners with World, European, and National titles to their names finishing mid-fleet! Sailing a remarkable series and winning in the end was Brazil’s Harold Solberg and his crew from Rio de Janeiro on OCEANPACT- VIKING. Here’s how it all went down over the five days of racing.
Day 1- Tuesday
On Tuesday, the fleet enjoyed two races in 12 to 18 kt breezes from the WNW and choppy seas. Both races saw blow-out wins by the race leaders and a remarkably spread-out fleet across the race track. Upwind, the leaders played breezes middle right up the track, closer to shore influences. Then, downwind they reversed that track and roared off in full-on planing mode on starboard gybe at least halfway down the leg before throwing in gybes on the larger wind streaks flowing down the track to get to the finish line.
The results from the first day were a bit of an “eye-opener” for jaded veteran observers of the J/70 class. Many of the top racing sailors worldwide will grudgingly admit the J/70 class offers by far the most competitive, and fairest, racing of any class globally. The first day of racing bore that out in spades, as many Olympic Medallists and World/European Champions could barely crack the top 30 spots on the leaderboard! READ MORE HERE.

J/45 STICKLEBACK, J/122 BULLDOG and J/109 MOJO RISIN Win RORC Season Honors
(Cowes, Isle of Wight, England)- The final race of the RORC Season Points Series and Cowes Offshore Series took place this past bank holiday weekend. Known simply as “the Cherbourg Race”, it’s a short 75.0nm sprint from Cowes, Isle of Wight, across the English Channel to Cherbourg, France. It’s a popular race for both French and British teams, as everyone seems to enjoy the camaraderie and good times at many of Cherbourg’s quaint seaside cafes and restaurants. For three J/Teams, it marks the finale of their successful seasons across three IRC divisions in both the RORC Seasons Point Series and the Cowes Offshore Series. J/Teams Haul the Mail and Win Big at Stamford Vineyard Race
(Stamford, CT)- Stamford Yacht Club held its famous Vineyard Race for a passionate group of offshore racing sailors last weekend. The 238-mile course stretched from Shippan Point in Stamford, Connecticut, to the Buzzard’s Bay Light tower, and then returned to the finish in Stamford Harbor, leaving Block Island to starboard on the way out and back.
It was a challenging, fast race for most teams, reaching back and forth across Long Island Sound and Block Island Sound. The race is popular with J/teams, and many won or podiumed in their respective divisions. Here is a breakdown of their performance across the fleets. READ MORE HERE.

J/40 J-HAWK Crushes Conanicut YC Around the Island Race
(Jamestown, RI)- The Around the Island Race (ATI) is the flagship sailing event of the Conanicut Yacht Club and the crown jewel of Narragansett Bay yacht racing. Held annually since 1927, the ATI sails the classic 20.0nm course around the scenic Conanicut Island, typically drawing close to 100 boats in both racing and cruising classes.
This year’s event presented its own challenges due to the weather conditions and fast-flowing currents of Narragansett Bay. At the start, a northerly breeze of 8-12 kts was forecast to die off slowly by mid-afternoon. As a result, the Conanicut YC RC/PRO team sent the fleet on the counter-clockwise course, starting south of Newport Bridge and going north around Conanicut Island, leaving it to port. Seeing the rapidly deteriorating wind conditions around 3:00 PM, the CYC RC/PRO wisely shortened the course at Beavertail Point Lighthouse, the most southerly point of the race track. It was a wise decision since the winds just north of Newport Bridge and the CYC finish line were already approaching “glass-out” conditions.Overall, several J/Teams fared very well in the challenging conditions. GKSS Crowned Swedish J/70 Sailing League Champions
(Ekero, Sweden)- The finale for the Swedish J/70 Sailing League 2026 was held off the picturesque waterfront off Ekero, Sweden, with eighteen teams attending and hosted by the quaint Ekerö Båtklubb. Over the weekend, the boat club’s RC/PRO team ran fifteen races for the final qualifications and the finale for the top five teams to determine the winner of the Ekerö event.
A lot was riding on the outcome of this regatta as it would decide which club took home the title of “Allsvenskan Sailing 2026” Champion. Going into the regatta, the GKSS (Royal Gothenburg YC) led the standings, two points ahead of KSSS (Royal Swedish YC), and another two points ahead of Halmstads Segelsällskap READ MORE HERE.

CLEAR AIR Clinches J/24 USA Nationals in Portland
(Portland, ME)- The Portland Yacht Club hosted yet another eponymous J/24 USA Nationals for a large fleet of thirty-five teams from across America and Canada. The Championship fleet featured an impressive 26 Corinthian teams, along with three female helms — two racing with all-female crews — and four teams under the age of 30. READ MORE HERE.

J/111 TERRIER Wins Red Fox Regatta on Lake Charlevoix
(Charlevoix, MI)- The Red Fox Regatta weekend spans three days, kicking off with the NuCore Triangle race on Friday evening and concluding with a two-day race from the west to the east end of Lake Charlevoix on Saturday, looping back on Sunday afternoon. Alongside the thrilling races, there’s a delightful family-friendly event planned for Saturday evening, making it a cherished tradition for racers, crew members, and their families.
After the Sunday race back to the west end of Lake Charlevoix, the regatta culminates in an afternoon Awards Ceremony at the Charlevoix Yacht Club. It’s a fun-filled event that attracts sailors from all around the Great Lakes, marking the grand finale of the summer racing season.
