J/Boats Take Four of Top Five at 2026 Buzzards Bay Trophy

(Marion, MA)- The Buzzards Bay competitive sailing season wrapped up on September 19th with the Hurricane Cup out of the Beverly Yacht Club in Marion, MA. This was the last of the eight races in the Buzzards Bay Trophy summer series. The races varied from the 106.0nm Whaler’s Race down to several shorter “Round Buzzards Bay” races to end the season. Thirty-four boats participated in at least one race; fourteen were J/Boats, including four of the top five boats!

The final standings showed Bonnie & Erik Kirchner’s J/105 PIMESON taking silver. They just edged out the J/121 CEILIDH sailed by Jim Coggeshall and his crew. The J/80 MONKEY WRENCH followed them in fourth, and the J/105 HARDTACK was fifth place.

Other J/Boats that participated in the summer series were: PEREGRINE, RAPTOR, the J/105 DARK & STORMY, the J/111 WICKED 2.0, RESTLESS, ISURUS, the J/109 GUT FEELING, KINDRED SPIRITS, BALLYHOO, and LYRIC.

Thanks go out to the New Bedford, Mattapoisett, Quissett, Beverly, and Buzzards Yacht Clubs for hosting the eight races this summer. In a period that has seen participation in competitive sailing decline, they grew the numbers over those seen in recent years! It’s deliberately designed to be a fun, laid-back, easy-to-participate summer-long series.
