NRV Wins Berlin, Leads First League in 2026 German J/70 Sailing League
(Berlin, Germany)- In the penultimate regatta of the year for the Deutsche Segel-Bundesliga, the Potsdamer Yacht Club hosted both League 1 & 2 on the beautiful Wannsee Lake in the middle of eastern Germany. With 18 teams in each league, the PYC had their hands full hosting the 36 sailing club teams in the pretty, quaint facilities along the lake! Remarkably, the PYC RC/PRO team’s expert on-water race management enabled the teams to sail 16 races each!
First League
Winning the regatta on the Wannsee was a perennial DSBL powerhouse- the Norddeutscher Regatta Verein team (Tobias Schadewaldt, Leon Passlack, Miklas Schaper, and Bjarne Stegelmann) posted mostly bullets in their scoreline to win with 35 pts. Second went to a rapidly developing team at Berliner Yacht-Club (Philipp Bruhns, Valentin Gebhardt, Maxmillian Nickel, and Philip Raabe), which also posted its fair share of 1sts and 2nds for 38 pts. Then, rounding out the podium in third was a “newbie on the block”, the Joersfelder Segel-Club’s team (Christoph Cornelius, Oliver Szymanski, Daniel Schwarze, and Jannik Gabriel) that sailed a strong series with 75% podium finishes for 43 pts total! The top five also included Kristian Lenkmann’s Bayerischer Yacht-Club team in fourth with 46 pts and Paul Porthun’s Muhlenberger Segel-Club crew with 47 pts.
First League 2026 Season
The six events in the Deutsche Segel-Bundesliga 2026 season include: Starnberg/Starnberger See I & II, Kiel/Baltic Sea, Hamburg/Alster Lake, and Berlin/Wannsee I & II. Currently leading the series is Norddeutscher Regatta Verein with a 6-1-2-1-1 for 11 pts. Second is the “upstarts,” Joersfelder Segel-Club, with a 1-4-4-12-3 tally for 24 pts. Then, lying third place is Muhlenberger Segel-Club with finishes of 2-16-1-3-5 for 27 pts.
While the “die is not cast” for the winners, the NRV are odds-on favorites to win the 2026 season series yet again. However, the podium is still up for grabs, with just a 10-point gap between 2nd and 4th!
Second League
Starting with five straight bullets, the Akademischer SegelVerein Warnemünde crew (Mike Tristen, Paul Arp, Adrian Helbig, and Luca Leidholdt) were determined to vanquish the fleet as best they could. After a few mediocre results mid-series, they closed strongly with a 2-2-2-1 to win the regatta with 39 pts. Second went to the Flensburger Segel-Club team (Nele Soker, Janik Fellmann, Thore Kiesbye, and Finian Bohnhardt) with 45 pts, just edging out the Segel-Club Ville team (Julian Blumenthal, Lars Schafmeister, Maxmillian Harings, and Patrick Pulskamp) by a single point; the latter finished third.
Second League 2026 Season
The Berlin regatta has a significant effect on the overall standings for the top six clubs after four regattas. In short, it’s nearly a six-way tie for the top of the leaderboard with just a 6-point spread from 1st to 6th place! Based on how each team has performed from one regatta to another, it’s impossible to place any odds on the outcome after the upcoming finale! Yikes! Here is why; check out the scorecard:
1. Segel-Club Ville- 14-2-1-3 for 20 pts.
2. Lubecker Yacht Club- 1-7-8-5 for 21 pts.
3. Konstanzer Yacht Club- 6-5-3-7 for 21 pts.
4. Flensburger Segel-Club- 15-4-2-2 for 23 pts.
5. Verein Seglerhaus am Wannsee- 8-1-4-12 for 25 pts.
6. Regatta-Segler-Neuruppin- 5-6-5-10 for 26 pts.
