PHANTOM 7 Wins Opening Event of Barcelona J/70 Winter Series

(Barcelona, Spain)- The first event of the Barcelona J/70 Winter Series, organized by the Real Club Nàutico de Barcelona (RCNB), concluded following seven races. An international fleet of sixteen teams raced well over a weekend defined by challenging, shifting weather conditions.
Thomas Muller’s PHANTOM 7 from Austria took the overall win, followed by Luis Martín Cabiedes’s NOTICIA from Spain, and Mon Canellas Salas’s HANG TEN from Spain, which took third place.

The first day began with a light east-southeasterly breeze, ranging from 5 to 7 knots. Javier Padron’s HSN Sailing Team started strong by winning the first race. But subsequent 8-4 finishes caused them to slip down the leaderboard. After the first three races, Salas’s HANG TEN held the provisional lead with a scoreline of 5-1-1, followed by Cabiedes’s NOTICIA (2-5-2) and Muller’s PHANTOM 7 (3-6-3).
The second day brought excellent “garbí” (southwesterly) wind conditions, with speeds between 10 and 13 knots, which once again reshaped the standings. NOTICIA delivered an impressive 1-2-3, propelling them into the lead. HANG TEN, with a scoreline of 5-6-2, dropped back, while PHANTOM 7 — recording a 3-4-1— held steady in third place.

The third and final day began with a postponement on shore due to a lack of wind. Eventually, the fleet headed out to contest the seventh and final race, which proved decisive in determining the overall standings.
Muller’s PHANTOM 7 won the final race, finishing with 15 points to claim the overall victory. Cabiedes’s NOTICIA finished second—tied on points with the winner—while Salas’s HANG TEN rounded out the podium with 20 points. Jurgen Waldheim’s WAIKIKI German crew took fourth place with 24 points, and Salas’s HSN Sailing Team finished fifth with 25.
