Regattaclub Oberhofen Wins Swiss J/70 HEIDI Cup on Lake Thun

(Spiez, Switzerland)- The annual “fall classic” for the J/70 Swiss women’s sailing league circuit is the HEIDI Cup raced in a fleet of matched J/70 one-design sailboats. Hosted this year by Yacht Club Spiez, the thirteen women’s teams enjoyed an excellent regatta sailing nine races on the gorgeous Lake Thun (Thunersee) just south of the city of Bern (the capital of Switzerland). The regatta was notable for the extremely competitive racing between four teams for the top three spots on the podium! Here’s how it all went down.

Racing in the sailing league format, the teams rotate into their boats for each flight, so scores often reflected leaders having the same score! In the end, just four points separated the top four teams.

The Regattaclub Oberhofen team, led by skipper Lisa Thonen and crew of Salvina Fries, Angelika Siegfried, Sophie Studer, and Selina Adam, won. The RCO team posted a stunning record of three 1sts, five 2nds, and a 5th for 18 pts total. Taking the silver medal just one point back was the CER- Ville de Geneve, led by skipper Karina Savary and her crew of Camille Guess, Anaelle Ortega, Amelie Bigler, and Iona Jan. Savary’s team managed to garner three 1sts, four 2nds, and two 4ths for 19 pts total. Rounding out the podium to take the bronze medal was the Bordee de Tribord-La Neuveville team, led by Maren Kaushke, with Morgane Emery, Lucille Andrey, Leonie Andrey, Oceane Affolter, and Dilemma Dirren. Kaushke’s team was leading the regatta up to race 7, then the proverbial “wheels fell off the shopping trolley”! They managed to compile four 1sts, two 2nds, a 3rd, and two 5ths in their last two races for 21 pts total.

The balance of the top five included Karen Stein’s Boddensprotten Team (from Regatta-Verein Greiswald) in fourth with 22 pts and Carmen Somm’s Yacht Club Kreuzlingen team in fifth place with 29 pts.
