Atlantique Le Télégramme Regatta Results: JOUR J and MOJITO Win J/70 & J/80

(Lorient, France)- An annual rite of passage for French J/70 and J/80 sailors has been the popular end-of-summer-season event- the L’Atlantique Le Télégramme Regatta. Hosted by the friendly members at CN Lorient along the shores of the Bay of Biscay, the J/80 and J/70 teams both enjoyed a very well-run seven-race series.

J/70 Class
After sailing most major J/70 events across Europe, including the recent J/70 World Championship in Cascais, Portugal, it was inevitable that Beatrice Joyaud’s team on JOUR J would finish “in the chocolates” soon. Beatrice and her crew of Nicolas Dore, Elliot Merceron, and Benjamin Amiot wasted no time in applying the hard lessons learned from their summer of J/70 sailing, posting an all-podium scoreline of three 1sts, three 2nds, and a 3rd to win the gold medal with just 9 pts net after a discard.

Just behind her, it was a flat-out battle all weekend-long between two familiar friends- Philippe Guigne and Herve Leduc. Guigne’s SAILING IMPACT team of Damien Scelo, Tangi Caron, and Tristan Peron started fast and led the regatta by a good margin, posting a 1-1-3-3-1 for their first five races! Then, the “wheels fell off the shopping trolley”, as their team closed with a 5-5 to salvage a silver medal, snatching “victory from the jaws of defeat”! Maintaining a very steady performance all weekend was Leduc’s JIBE SET- PIERRE OCEANE team of Loic Avram, Mikael Garret, and Thomas Cormier; they posted three 2nds, two 3rds, and two 4ths to post a tally of 16 pts net to take the bronze medal!

Rounding out the top five were Mathieu Durand’s COCODY LECLERC HENNEBONT in fourth place with 19.5 pts net and Gonzague Marraud Des Grottes’s JAWS TOO team that finished fifth place with 26 pts net.

J/80 Class
The battle for the top of the leaderboard came down to a single point and a tiebreaker! Winning was a longtime veteran of the French J/80 wars, Eric Brezellec’s MOJITO/ ARKEA BANQUE team of Marie Liger, Mathieu Legrand, Thomas Deslandes, and Alicia Vincent, finishing with 9 pts net. One point back and tied at 10 pts net each for the balance of the podium were Tangi Le Goff’s ESPOIR SNBSM team of Mathieu Le Cleach, Albane Christien, Valentin Belles, and Nell Castilla and Charles Duboeuf’s LIBECCIO- MARINE BREST 10 team of Mael Rescue, Emeric Lacroix, Andrea De Giorgi, and Nicolas Thebault. Winning the tiebreaker countback process to win the silver medal was Tangi’s ESPOIR SNBSM team, while settling for the bronze medal was Duboeuf’s LIBECCIO- MARINE BREST 10.

The balance of the top five included Sylvain Pellisier’s INTUITIVE SAILS in fourth place with 12 pts net and Jocelyn Le Goff’s TELESTO finishing fifth with 16 pts net.
