J/70s Podium in Wild 2026 Delta Ditch Run to Stockton
(Stockton, CA)- The 35th annual Point Richmond to Stockton Race, known infamously as the “Delta Ditch Run”, took place last weekend on San Francisco Bay. The annual classic started off at Richmond Yacht Club in the upper San Francisco Bay and finished in Stockton, CA, 65.0 nm east up the Sacramento and San Joaquin Rivers, and to the finish line at the Stockton Sailing Club, just shy of California’s massive Interstate Highway I-5.
A number of J/Teams are participating in this fun-loving adventure; a truly awesome, crazy, over-the-top downwind blast going past buoys, islands, and sand bars in an endless “chicane” from start to finish.
Six J/Teams were sailing the meandering race. Here are a few notable finishes.
In the PHRF Heavy 1 Division, Nesrin Basoz’s J/111 SWIFT NESS took fifth place in the slow time of 8 hrs 35 mins 12 secs.
In the PHRF Heavy 2 Division, taking fifth place was Rhett Smith’s J/92 HUMBLE VANDAL in the blazing time of 8 hrs 22 mins 30 sec. They were followed in sixth place by Robert Walden & Lori Tewksbury’s J/100, WOWIA, in a blistering time of 8 hrs 43 mins 9 secs.
The J/70s did great in the PHRF Light 2 Division. Taking the silver medal was Andy & Kat Dippel’s SPIRIT, with a mind-melting time of 8 hrs 7 mins 12 secs. Just behind to earn the bronze medal was Sherry Sybertz’s COLIBRI in the time of 8 hrs 11 mins 18 secs- a brave and challenging outing for this crew from the Monterey Peninsula Yacht Club!
