As September moves deeper into fall, the J/Boats calendar is shifting toward boat-show season, late-year championship racing, and some of the most popular regattas on both coasts. From La Rochelle and Annapolis to Long Island Sound and San Francisco Bay, the season remains busy with new-boat debuts, major fleet gatherings, and plenty of reasons to keep sailing well into autumn.
The fall boat-show schedule now turns to Grand Pavois in La Rochelle and the Annapolis Sailboat Show. In France, the new J/7 makes its European debut alongside the J/99, J/36, and J/40, while Annapolis will feature the J/7, J/9, and J/40. The J/7 arrives with extra momentum after being nominated for European Yacht of the Year 2027, recognition for a design that deliberately returns to the essentials: responsive sailing, simple handling, a spacious cockpit, and the ability to be enjoyed comfortably by one person.
On Long Island Sound, American Yacht Club is preparing for its famous Fall Regatta in Rye, New York. For many Northeast sailors, the event marks the traditional culmination of a long summer season, often delivering stronger autumn breeze, competitive racing, and the lively shoreside atmosphere that has made the regatta especially popular with J/Boats owners throughout the region.
Across the country, San Francisco Bay is preparing for the iconic ROLEX Big Boat Series at St. Francis Yacht Club. J/Boats will once again dominate the keelboat fleet, with 46 J/Teams among 74 entries— an impressive 62 percent of the field. Large J/105 and J/88 one-design fleets, along with J/Teams racing under ORC, will effectively turn the event into a four-day J/Fest against one of sailing’s most dramatic backdrops.
From the European debut of the J/7 to fall racing on Long Island Sound and a massive J/Boats presence on San Francisco Bay, this week’s stories capture the changing season perfectly: new boats to discover, major regattas still to race, and plenty of sailing left before the year winds down.
